OUR CATTLE TREE
Calving begins in early March for the cows that are bred by artificial insemination. The Millers breed their cattle to other good lines of Angus bulls in order to produce the best possible cattle for their customers. Artificial insemination is handled by Dr. Adam Acklin whose reputation in A.I. is impeccable. The remaining cows, bred to carefully selected sire bulls from the Miller’s own herd, deliver in April and May.
Careful breeding over the last 67 years has created a reputation of quality in the Miller’s cattle operation. “We have three main goals in mind for our herd,” according to Kenny Miller. To begin with, they want to raise momma cows with outstanding maternal instincts. Secondly, Miller Angus Cattle wants cattle with an excellent disposition in order to raise cattle that supersede previous generations in performance, but still have eye appeal. In 2017, the American Angus Association’s (r) Pathfinder’s Report recognize over 41 registered Angus cows from the Miller’s combined herd. The Pathfinder Program selects the best in the Angus industry based on performance traits which are economically important to efficient beef production. Among these traits that are considered when selecting cattle are regular calving and heavy weaning weights. The Association reviews nearly 1.8 million eligible cows and more than 5.7 million weaning records to determine Pathfinder status. ...as published by Pamela Sonnenmoser in the "Green Acres Vol. 46 No. 19
